JOFFREY WEST-LOS ANGELES (AGES 10-25)

The intensive in Los Angeles with our master instructors, featuring Mia Michaels (of "So You Think You Can Dance" fame), which culminates in a red carpet performance at the Valley Performing Arts Center, California State University Northridge. Morning classes focus on ballet, consisting of technique, pointe, variations, and partnering. Afternoon classes consist of modern, contemporary dance, nutrition, and conditioning classes. Mia Michaels will be instructing all levels of the intensive’s performance sessions and choreographing for the production.

DANCE EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT

Four years of Ballet and four years of Jazz & Contemporary Dance.

Minimum of one year of Pointe- Proficiency, two years preferred.

The Joffrey Ballet School introduces “Joffrey West,” based in Los Angeles, CA. This summer dance training intensive incorporates all forms of dance to create the “IDEAL” dancer. Today’s working professional dancer has to master various dance disciplines.

A professional dancer must be able to work for a Professional Ballet Company, Professional Modern Company, Music Videos, World Stage Show, Pop/Hip Hop Artist Live Performance, Broadway and the Hollywood film industry - a professional dancer should have the capability to do it all!!

In order for a dancer to achieve this level of versatility they must be trained by world-renowned instructors. A dancer will understand the differences in all diverse dance disciplines by studying an array of different dance styles. We expose dancers to top choreographers to build their repertoire of techniques and incorporate all that they have learned in a final performance

Joffrey West’s esteemed faculty includes Emmy Award Winner and television star choreographer and judge from, “So You Think You Can Dance,” Mia Michaels. Ms. Michaels will be instructing all trainee levels of the intensive and creating a new choreographic piece to be showcased at the red carpet performance.

The red carpet event will be held at the Valley Performing Arts Center, California State University Northridge. Joffrey West’s full program of classes will include a classical ballet focus of technique, pointe (variations/pas de deux), conditioning and nutrition. A contemporary focus of technique, partnering, improve and different styles. The contemporary classes include modern, jazz, and Hip – Hop dance. Students will learn the value of rehearsal and performing choreographic works.

To perform, students must attend the last three weeks of the program.

DRESS CODE

FEMALE
Ballet: Joffrey Black leotard, pink tights, pink ballet slippers
Other classes: Joffrey dance shorts or pants with a Joffrey fitted T-Shirt

MALE
Ballet: Joffrey Fitted Bike Shorts, Joffrey T-Shirt, white or black with matching socks and ballet shoes either black or white
Other classes: Joffrey Fitted Bike Shorts, Joffrey T-Shirt, white or black with matching socks and dance shoes either black or white

Male and Female students in the Joffrey Ballet School Summer Intensive must purchase the required uniform.

AIRPORT PICK-UP/DROP-OFF

We do not offer airport pick-up and drop-off services at this location

SCHOLARSHIPS AND FINANCIAL AID

Merit based scholarships are available and distributed based on a student’s audition. There are no special forms to fill out; recipients will be notified in their acceptance email. The Joffrey Ballet School is able to distribute limited financial aid funds to students who show extreme need.
