Dress Code for the Ballet Intensive:

Balletto: 

• Option 1: Black leotard, skin tone or light pink convertible tights and skin tone or pink ballet slippers, pointe shoes (if dancer has been on pointe at least one year), short pull on or wrap around ballet skirt. Dancers must secure their hair in a bun with a hair net. (Female Identifying)
• Option 2: Black tights, black or white form fitting shirt, black or white tights, black or white ballet slippers with coordinating black or white socks, dance belt (Mandatory). Dancers with hair longer than their collar should secure their hair in a ponytail. (Male Identifying)

Jazz, Contemporary, Modern:

• Option 1: Black leotard, black leggings or tights, nude jazz shoes. Dancers must secure their hair in a bun with a hair net. (Female Identifying)
• Option 2: Black jazz pants or dance shorts, black or white form fitting shirt, nude jazz shoes. Dancers with hair longer than their collar should secure their hair in a ponytail. (Male Identifying)

Flamenco: 

• Option 1: Nude 1.5-2” heel hard-soled Character shoes, black Character skirt (knee or calf length). Castanets and a hand fan. Dancers must secure their hair in a bun with a hair net. (Female Identifying)
• Option 2: Black Jazz pants and T-shirt, nude Character or Flamenco shoes, castanets. Dancers with hair longer than their collar should secure their hair in a ponytail. (Male Identifying)

Jazz, Contemporary, Modern:

• Option 1: Black leotard, black leggings or tights, nude jazz shoes, nude hard-soled 1.5-2” heel Character shoes. Dancers must secure their hair in a bun with a hair net. (Female Identifying)
• Option 2: Black jazz pants or dance shorts, black or white form fitting T-shirt, nude jazz shoes. Dancers with hair longer than their collar should secure their hair in a ponytail. (Male Identifying)

Hip Hop: 

• Hip Hop sneakers with white soles, black loose fitting pants or shorts, black or white T-shirt.

Supplies required for all dancers:

• A water bottle.
• Yoga mat (or large towel).
• Nut-free bag lunch for commuter students.

Parents and guests do not have to purchase tickets or sign up and can arrive at the studio between 3:15 pm – 3:30 pm. Further instructions will be posted on the BAND Groups.

The Administrative team consists of a group of Assistenti amministrativi who work with the Artistic Directors at the studios. The team facilitates daily operations and handles crises or emergencies should they arise.

All of our summer interns take part in a robust selection process that includes a formal application, one-on-one interviews, group evaluations and background checks. Most of our interns are currently attending university or have graduated. All candidates must have a dance background or share an appreciation for performing arts.

Classes are offered Monday – Friday. Students can register for one to four weeks.

Start Time: 8:45 am – 9:15 am

Classes are held Monday – Friday only. 

Schedules for our intensives are made available the week prior to the program start date. Schedules are posted on the Joffrey website. Schedules can be viewed online, and will also be posted on the Band group.

Housing is available for students 12 years and older. Students must be 12 or older during the intensive. Students turning 12 after July 29 will not be eligible to stay at the dorm.

The Residence Hall is located on the Florida International University Campus. Our live-in Housing staff are available to students and parents 24 hours a day and assist by providing support and guidance at the dorm and studio. Students are escorted to and from the studio.

Very Important: Florida International University reserves the right to move the Joffrey Ballet School Miami summer intensive housing students to a different dorm on their campus. Joffrey Ballet School will update the website and materials if the dorm location changes.

There will be a virtual orientation for students and parents as well as an in person orientation on Sundays after check-in.

CHECK OUT
Students must check out of housing before they leave for classes on the Friday of their last week.

Joffrey will provide storage for students who would like to pick up their belongings after classes. All belongings must be picked up on Friday. Housing students are required to schedule a check out time and will be required to move out during that time. Dancers staying at the dorm for multiple weeks do not have to check out during the weekends.

The students will have scheduled meeting times each morning to meet to travel together to the studios. They will also have a scheduled travel group to return to the housing locations for evening check in. Transportation will be provided and escorted by the Joffrey Housing team.

Students may request roommates under the following conditions: Roommates must reside in housing for the same period of time and must attend the same intensive. Roommate Requests are $100 per dancer. Please note that although we will make every effort to accommodate requests, it might not always be possible.If we are unable to honor a request, the resident will receive a credit towards their tuition.

The Meal Plan is required for dancers staying in housing. Students will dine on campus in the cafeteria. Vegetarian, Vegan and Gluten free items are available.

Mondays – Thursdays: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
Saturdays – Sundays: Breakfast & Dinner

Students will receive their first meal on Sunday evening after they check and the last meal on Friday morning before they check out. Dancers will pick up their bag lunch during breakfast at Panther Dining before heading to the studio each morning.

• Bedding: Twin XL sheets, blanket/duvet, pillows and pillowcases. Students are allowed to bring mattress toppers/mattress pads.
• Bathroom essentials and toiletries. JBS does not provide toilet paper.
• Electronics: laptops, tablets, chargers, etc. JBS does not provide cable.
• Storage: Hangers and any other desired storage containers.
• Cell Phone: All housing students are required to have a phone with a United States phone number. International students may choose to purchase a “pay as you go” package or turn on their roaming feature.
• Cleaning supplies: Disinfectant/sanitizing/cleaning products, wipes, paper towels, broom, trash bags, laundry detergent, etc. Students will be responsible to keep their apartments clean and tidy during their stay. Joffrey will have some cleaning supplies that students could borrow.

The following items are prohibited and will result in confiscation and/or infractions/fines.

• Candles, incense and anything that produces a flame/spark.
• Electric or battery operated string lights.
• Toaster ovens, toasters, panini and sandwich makers. 
• Space Heaters.
• Halogen lights.
• Washing machine or dryer.
• Pets.
• Alcohol, drugs, tobacco, eCigarettes, Juuls, Hookah pipes, bongs and illegal substances of any nature, or drug and alcohol paraphernalia.

Joffrey Ballet School does not offer Airport Transportation for this intensive.

The Residence Life Department team consists of a group of live-in Resident Advisors (RAs) who rotate duty shifts. The RA on duty can be reached 24/7. The team facilitates daily operations and handles crises or emergencies should they arise. RAs are also available to take students (17 and younger) to the doctor, conduct rounds to ensure health and safety. Our team meets with students to conduct mediations, conflict resolution meetings, friendship introductions and any other situation that students need assistance with.
