Born and raised in Guaynabo, Puerto Rico, Abdiel Figueroa Reyes moved to the U.S. in 2011, pursuing dance at Las Vegas Academy of the Arts and The Rock Center for Dance. A Youth America Grand Prix (YAGP) alumnus, they won 1st place in the contemporary division in 2015 and now travel nationwide as a YAGP adjudicator and educator.
Figueroa began their professional career with Contemporary West Dance Theater before training in Hubbard Street’s Professional Program under Alexandra Wells. In 2019, they joined Hubbard Street Dance Chicago, performing works by renowned choreographers until 2024. Recognized as a 2020 Dance Magazine “Top 25 to Watch” and a 2022 Princess Grace Award winner, they were also featured in Forbes 30 Under 30 Local Chicago for their work in innovative therapeutic dance.
Now focusing on choreography, Figueroa has created works for BOYKIN TWO, Little Fire Arts Collective, Visceral Dance, Hubbard Street’s Inside/Out, YAGP Marcella Fellowship, and the University of Chicago’s TAPS program. They are dedicated to exploring their queer Latin-American experience through narrative-driven, boundary-pushing contemporary dance.
