Angelica Stiskin

Joffrey Ballet School

Angelica Stiskin is internationally recognized for her versatility as a choreographer, director, performer, and dance educator. She has been honored to lead the next generation of artists as the Artistic Director of Joffrey Ballet School’s Jazz & Contemporary Trainee Program and Flagship Jazz & Contemporary summer intensive, SPECTRUM. She began her trajectory at Joffrey Ballet School as choreographer and educator in 2008, appointed Artistic Director in 2017, and has been a pivotal member of the worldwide Audition Tour team since 2021. She is seen touring the country on faculty for Heat Convention & Competition’s National Tour in collaboration with Joffrey Ballet School’s Audition Tour, as well as continuing her work as choreographer, director, and creative consultant designing high-level concepts for fashion, editorial, and live entertainment.

Angelica, born and raised in New Jersey, had the rare opportunity to be guided by notable experts in the field, Dawn Laviola-Schaub (Jennifer Mueller) Yuliya Akopyan (Principal for Bolshoi Ballet), Mary-Kate Felber (West Side Story, Harlem Suite), along with choreographer, Billy Larson, who she toured the country with as his assistant since the age of 14. Angelica’s work with Billy placed her inside the professional circuit at an early age — featured as a guest artist in ASH Contemporary Dance founded by Braham Logan Crane, as well as American Dance Artists, Adrienne Canterna’s former company, performing alongside Rasta Thomas and Travis Wall. She continued to support Larson’s vision by his side at Broadway Dance Center, Joffrey Ballet School, and his widely recognized pre-professional company, East Coast Movement.

She proudly earned her BFA in Dance at Marymount Manhattan College under the direction of Katie Langan, performing works by Robert Battle, Shen Wei, Lar Lubovitch, Pat Catterson and many others. Years later she had the privilege to return to MMC as choreographer, and to initiate a new elective course for the dance majors as Adjunct Faculty. While continuing to work with world-renowned choreographers in New York City, her work with Robert Battle, granted her access to workshop and perform for his former company, Battleworks, right before his transition to Artistic Director of Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater. After years of working closely with one of Battle’s muses, Marlena Wolfe, Angelica spent several years as performer and choreographic assistant for Marlena’s company, The Wolfe Project. Angelica was commissioned to be repetiteur for Netherlands-based company, Introdans, following Marlena Wolfe’s restaging process as répétiteur for Robert Battle’s work, “The Hunt”.

Her career blended the worlds of concert and commercial dance, along with a constant in fueling dance education, where she is still traveling, teaching and choreographing for schools and companies around the world. Along the way, additional credits include: assistant to Emmy Award winning Mia Michaels across the U.S.A. and Canada; performed with Justin Bieber and The Disney Channel’s Shake It Up Girls, worked for Benoit-Swan Pouffer (Cedar Lake Contemporary Ballet), Tyler Gilstrap (Ballroom Marfa), guested with Eisenhower Dance Detroit (Detroit Opera House/Great Lakes Chamber Music Festival); toured with VIP Dance Competition as National Director and faculty for over five years, and helped develop and design affiliated luxury comforts brand, Move Society, as Brand Design Director; choreographed/consulted award-winning short film, “Fractures” by Director, Kevin Kim; choreographed/directed NYFW Spring/Summer 2013, a collaboration with Louis Vuitton and Parsons School of Design; commissioned by Christian Dior Couture to choreograph in honor of the Spring/Summer 2019 collection inspired by dance; requested by Consuelo Vanderbilt for a multi-media event produced by SohoMuse for NYFW in September 2022; selected to collaborate as choreographer and creative team member of New Jersey City University’s Musical Theater department lead by Marc G. Dalio, bringing to the stage, “Pippin”, “A Chorus Line”, and “Joseph and Technicolor Dreamcoat.”

Bloomberg Philanthropies commissioned Angelica to choreograph by request of notable creative, Beth Crandall, for the grand opening of PAC/NYC, Perelman Performing Arts Center (next to the Freedom Tower). This major press event of the “ribbon connecting” ceremony highlighted the students and alumni of the Joffrey Ballet School. Angelica choreographed and consulted (using Joffrey Ballet School Trainees), the opening spectacle for the runway show of Brazilian brand, PatBO (featured on Beyoncé), at New York Fashion Week in February 2024. She continues to experiment with screen dance collaborating with NYC-based filmmakers to design dance for film and provide movement direction for the worlds of dance along with a vast array of artistic mediums.

She has now transitioned into Artistic Director At-Large at Joffrey Ballet School while in pursuit of her Master’s in Education Leadership at Harvard University, a program specifically designed for mid-career professionals in education. She wishes to utilize her studies and research alongside her platform to expand the potential and capacity for arts education in our world.
