Barbara Tosto is originally from Sicily, Italy.
While in Europe, she graduated from the Royal Academy of Dance of London in 2012.
In 2014 she moved to the United States to train at the Joffrey Ballet School, under the direction of Era Jouravlev, where she graduated in 2018. In the years at Joffrey Barbara had the opportunity to perform works by George Balanchine, such as Serenade and Stars and Stripes, staged by Stacy Caddell, Earl Mosley and more.
Barbara had also the opportunity to dance professionally with the Bellini Junior Ballet Company, directed by Giusy Vittorino, and perform roles from the Don Quixote in the prestigious Greek Amphitheater of Taormina, Italy and with the JSLN Dance Company, directed by Soren Niewelt, in Germany.
After graduating from Joffrey, she joined New York Dance Project, where she had the opportunity to perform works by Gerald Arpino, such as Viva Vivaldi and Birthday Variations, restaged by Nicole Duffy and works by Robert Battle, restaged by Tyler Gilstrap.
Barbara is now dancing with Hudson Ballet Theatre, directed by Ho-Shia Thao and Debra King, since 2019. There she has and continues to perform original roles by the directors, Marika Brussels, Zachary Kapeluck, Breton Tyner-Bryan and others and travels internationally with the company.
Barbara started her path to teaching being an assistant in the Children’s Ballet Program at the Joffrey Ballet School in 2016. She is now teaching since 2021 at City Center Dance and since 2024 at the JCC Mid-Westchester.
Barbara is thrilled to come back to Joffrey as a faculty member.
