Resident Advisor & Administrative Assistant

Job Description

This position is for the 2024/2025 academic year and combines the responsibilities of a Resident Advisor (RA) and Administrative Assistant (AA). An RA/AA is a leader and resource for all students. They are scheduled to manage daily operations and administrative duties at the residence hall and studio. RA/AAs facilitate educational, social and personal adjustment of students and promote a sense of community among the dancers. This is a full-time position with live-in and on-call responsibilities. The RA/AA reports to the Director of Operations Life & Residence Life Coordinator.

 


Qualifications, Requirements & Competencies

Joffrey Ballet School seeks enthusiastic, hardworking and proactive individuals. Applicants must be able to work within the artistic culture of Joffrey Ballet School. Applicants should also be able to communicate well, evaluate crisis situations, respond appropriately and establish rapport with a wide variety of students, staff and faculty. RA/AAs are expected to be helpful and courteous.

Minimum qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent/GED

Preferred qualifications:

  • Previous employment with the Joffrey Ballet School.
  • Applicants who have obtained a BFA or BA degree.
  • Residence Life/Child Care experience
  • Experience in Student Leadership, Higher Education, or Student Affairs
  • Administrative experience
  • Customer Service experience
  • First Aid, CPR or other medical training

Minimum requirements:

  • 18 or older and permitted work in the United States.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication.
  • Work well in a team to effectively build community.
  • Demonstrate sound project management skills, including the ability to manage multiple projects.
  • Manage challenging situations.
  • Effectively and fairly interpret and apply policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrate sensitivity in all interactions
  • Comply with directions and instructions from supervisors.
  • Provide equal and fair treatment for all.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain a professional relationship with all students, staff and faculty.
  • Participate in all training sessions and adhere to the staff schedule and duties assigned.
  • Know, follow, communicate and enforce all policies and protocols in the student, housing and training manuals. This includes any addendum manuals, such as COVID-19 resources.
  • Assist and comply with all instructions, procedures and protocol in regards to Joffrey’s reopening procedures.
  • Create incident reports for code of conduct violations or psychological episodes.
  • Assist students with problems and communicate sensitive information effectively.
  • Work with staff to ensure the well-being of students and a positive atmosphere.
  • Enforce and assist with all COVID-19 protocols.
  • Assist with the facilitation of fire drills.
  • Conduct dorm and studio tours.
  • Respond to reported COVID-19 instances. This includes contacting all parties involved and relaying information to all supervisors, using the manual to confirm all required information, contacting the Department of Health to report the information and relaying the information to all parties involved.
  • Communicate with parents as necessary and as directed by the supervisor/RLC.

RA/AAs will be scheduled to complete duties at the residence hall and studio, both virtual and onsite. The contract period is contingent upon the successful completion of assigned duties, projects and performance appraisals.

Availability
Aside from duty shifts, RA/AAs will be assigned to additional duties. Although some of these projects could be completed while on duty, some of the duties might have to be scheduled outside of those hours. RA/AAs live in the hall with the students. If a student knocks on a staff member’s door (even if they are not on duty), they need to assist them or connect them to another available staff member.

RA/AAs will be allowed to take days off when they are not scheduled to work at the studio, residence hall or at an event. If staff members would like to travel or take consecutive days off, they will have to select their shifts accordingly.

  • Salary/Fixed Rate: $200 per week
  • Comp dance classes through Joffrey’s Open Class program & Open studio space (NYC Only)
