Emiko Ohara-Walsh

Emiko is a classically trained jazz pianist, composer, and arranger. Born in Japan, she began piano lessons at the age of five. During her classical studies at Kunitachi College of Music in Tokyo, she started listening to jazz. After graduating from college, Emiko visited New York and was deeply inspired by the city’s jazz scene. This led her to pursue jazz studies in NYC, where she studied jazz piano at Mannes/The New School and under the legendary Sir Roland Hanna at Queens College. Emiko has been performing and recording with her husband, saxophone player Danny Walsh, and continues to play in the NYC area. She holds a B.A. in Eurhythmics/Music Education and an M.A. in Jazz Performance.
