Kurt Froman has made a name for himself as “The Ballet Bootcamp Guy” (-New York Times) for his work coaching celebrity actors in major motion pictures. He coached Natalie Portman, Mila Kunis, and Vincent Cassel in Darren Aronofsky’s Black Swan (Associate Choreographer), and was personally thanked in Natalie Portman’s Oscar Acceptance Speech for their work together. He recently coached Jennifer Lawrence for over four months for her role in Red Sparrow (Associate Choreographer), Christina Ricci for Amazon’s Z: The Beginning of Everything (Choreographer), and Rooney Mara’s preproduction work for Terrence Malick’s “Song To Song.

Kurt has choreographed commercials for L’Oreal’s True Match (starring Zoe Saldana) and ASICS Hypergel-Sai, as well as Domyos (Associate Choreographer). He has been a répétiteur for Benjamin Millepied, staging ballets for both the Paris Opera Ballet and Ballett Dortmund. 

Kurt began his career at the New York City Ballet, dancing senior corps and soloist roles in over 65 ballets. Kurt transitioned to the Broadway world when he starred in the Billy Joel-Twyla Tharp hit Movin’ Out (“James”). He did the Broadway productions of Pal Joey at Studio 54 (Swing) and An American In Paris (Original Dance Captain, Swing, Ensemble), and was the Resident Choreographer of Billy Elliot, The Musical on the Broadway and 2nd National Tour. 


Kurt has been seen in the films Center StageAcross the UniverseBlack Swan (“Understudy to ‘Siegfried’”), SmashSNL and Flesh & Bone. He has also danced in several Live From Lincoln Center telecasts. He has been a featured speaker at the SAB’s new Ballet Connoisseurship Program, and is on faculty at various NYC dance studios, and a regular teacher for the New York City Dance Alliance.
